Abstract

Bryocladia thwaitesii (Harvey ex J. Agardh) Detoni, is a commercially important red algae finding wide use in pharmaceutical, cosmetics, nutraceutical industries. However there is no work was made on the DNA isolation which is the key step for further improvement of its yield. Here, for the first time we report the DNA isolation suitable for molecular biological studies and the quality and quantity of the DNA is reported in comparison with the green alga (Ulva covelongenesis V. Krishnamoorthy and H.Joshi). Optimization of DNA isolation was done in these algae by adopting different methods. In the optimization process, different DNA isolation methods were followed. A better result in terms of purity and yield was obtained in method suggested by Wattier et al. (2000) modification by Dellaporta et al. (1983). Quantitative analysis made using Nano vue UV spectrophotometer sets as a pioneering effort in the B. thwaitesii. The DNA isolated by this protocol from two seaweeds, both the purity of DNA as well as concentration were very high i.e., 1.772 and 594.5 mg/μl respectively in B. thwaitesii. In U. covelongenesis the purity of DNA was 1.763 and concentration of DNA 569.5 mg/μl, which was fairly high in other protocols studied, the purity of DNA ranged from 1.444 to 1.640 and concentration of DNA ranged from 71 to 463 ngm/μl. All the experiments were performed by keeping the green alga U. covelongenesis as standard for comparison. The DNA isolation protocol indentified in the present investigation in the seaweed B. thwaitesii would become well suited for PCR amplification and genomic library construction.

Abstract

An ad hoc wireless network consists of a set of mobile nodes that are connected by wireless links. The network topology in such a network may keep changing randomly. Routing protocols that find a path from a source node to a destination node used in traditional wired networks cannot be directly applied in ad hoc wireless networks due to their highly dynamic topology and absence of established infrastructure for centralized administration. A variety of routing protocols for ad hoc wireless networks has been proposed in the recent past. An efficient routing protocol can provide significant benefits to mobile ad hoc networks in terms of both performance and reliability. The most popular routing protocols are Dynamic Source Routing (DSR), Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV), Temporally Ordered Routing Algorithm (TORA) and Destination-Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV) routing protocol. The performance of AODV and DSDV routing protocol have been evaluated for Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) in terms of the quality of service metrics: "throughput", "average end-to-end delay" and observed that the AODV is performing better than the DSDV routing protocol. A network simulator-2 (NS-2) has been used for the performance evaluation of AODV and DSDV routing protocol in this paper.

Abstract

Storytelling in postcolonial fiction is all about reliving the forgotten or erased past thereby preserving and repossessing it. The novel Eva Luna narrates the story of Eva Luna, who is endowed with an intuitive potential of entertaining and nourishing people by her stories each of which she generates in no time piecing together shards of her past with slivers of her imagination. Like most of the woman protagonists of Isabel Allende's fiction, Eva Luna is a storyteller who has a flair for animating the past through her stories and in so doing nurtures the present. Through her stories, she not only records history but also fortifies the inseparable ancestral bonds which thwart the oppressed and the marginalized from extinction in a country - perceivably Latin America - torn asunder by political upheavals. Subjected to the manifold hegemony of the church, the state and the military, which are the mainstays of patriarchy, Eva Luna's stories work towards a rememory of the past and reclamation of her lost world which had been snatched away from her and her mother from whom she has inherited the legacy of storytelling.

Abstract

Human Resource Management and development have become an essential strategic process at work places. After selecting the right individuals and to enhance their contribution at work places, human resource development practices need to be inducted. The HRD practices must be scanned towards the requirements of individual as well as the organization. The human resource management practices are viewed as strategic tool in education sector. The human resource deployment is the crucial instrument in educational industry. The intensity of innovation adopted by the teachers especially in teaching learning activities have an influence on their performance. This present article attempts to view the role of strategic human resource practices like training, empowerment and teamwork on teaching innovation and performance. In order to overview the conceptual framework, Structural Equation Model (SEM) has been employed through AMOS 17.0 version.

Abstract

Insured Financial Position and Investment benefits are key factors that drive the Insurance industry to the competitive edge. To draft out the investment benefits to consumer, effective investment procedures, policies should be derived and delivered to the consumer in a lucid way. Consumer usage level of the financial product can be well identified by the level of awareness of the products in the market that best suits the customer with proper deliverables. As environment and technology changes the way of work, industries should also concentrate on providing key skills needed for employees to manage risks. Employees should be upskilled in different roles and levels to achieve greater standards in promoting best insurance products to customers. This paper discusses the skill development level of employees working in insurance industries, before and after upskilling process. Skilled employees would make the product and process development easier according to the customer needs thereby delivering long term value added packages to the customer. The study is limited to Chennai region using convenience sampling method. Findings of this study illustrates that there is a positive correlation between the observed variables of digital impact on job with employee skills level utilization. Findings also portray a positive correlation between the job enrichment and Job efficiency levels due to digital impact on core work areas and after upskilling.

Abstract

This paper attempts a folkloric study on the South Indian cultural creeds and rituals practiced by the transgender and transvestite people during their annual carnivals in the temple of Koothanadavar which lies in the Koovagam region of Tamil Nadu and, the Kottankulangara Bhagavathi Devi temple in Kerala region. It unravels the unification and identification of gender-benders in spreading the folkloric performances through these ritualistic carnivals nationwide towards social acceptability of their gender and practices through the trope of Mikhail Bakhtin’s carnivalesque. Though the members of the community have been spurned for their biological abnormality by their own family and society, they form their own group to share and follow their self-established socio-cultural norms and practices for their consecutive generations. The members never give up their own cultural practices, folk songs, dances and other performances during the Koovagam and Kottankulangara carnivals at any cost. Thus, this paper scrutinizes how the members of transgender and transvestites of Tamil Nadu and Kerala worship these deities during these carnivals in order to receive acceptance and validation in society by following their own rituals and credos which is considered to be unique across the globe and also interprets the hybrid forms of Hindu Gods and Goddesses for understanding the inherent and inevitable biological aberrations in the creation of species.
